NYBBS award winners announced at concerts

Competition winners and awards recipients were announced at the NYBBS concerts in Stirling on Saturday.

In the Senior band, Andrew McMillan was presented with the Richard Evans Solo Trophy for winning the Senior band solo contest. Gregor Koziel and Hannah Noble were second and third.

The Tom McCrone Bass Award went to Thomas Barnett who was attending his last NYBBS summer school.

Calum Blair received the Philip McCann Cornet Award and Adam Riddiough (Bb bass) was declared the Best Student for his “outstanding contribution and attitude” throughout the week.

The SBBA president’s team award – for endeavour, positive attitude, hard work and going that extra mile to make their section the best it can be – went to the band’s 14 trombone players.

In the Reserve band, Andrea Crumlish won the solo contest, followed by Aidan Miller and Gus Paton. The Brad and Linn Cato Award for Best Student was presented to Violet Raphael (cornet) for being “an excellent all round student”.

The SBBA president’s team award went to the band’s three percussionists for their “positive attitude and hard-work”.

Being promoted to the Senior band are Kerem Tekcan (principal cornet), Andrea Crumlish (solo horn) and Vinnie Brown (bass trombone).

In the Children’s band, Iris Deane won the solo contest, with Charlie Colville and Isla Gillespie in second and third places. Katherine Robertson was announced as the Best Student for “just being a star all week!”.

First baritones David Orr and Emily Kroegler received the SBBA president’s team award.

Five NYBBS players have been nominated for the 2023 European Brass Band.
