Funding boost for new community brass group

Saturday 21 May 2022

Irvine & Dreghorn Brass is celebrating £11,219 funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery to assist in setting up a new community brass group.

IDB purchased the Dunlop Memorial Hall in Dreghorn, Ayrshire, via a Community Asset Transfer in October 2020, to create a community music centre, and the building is now used by the band for rehearsals, the teaching of brass and percussion to children and adults, and for community concerts.

Frazer Kirk, band chairman, said: “The band is delighted with the award and we thank the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery for their support and funding. The funds will be used to purchase musical instruments and equipment to enable us to start a new community brass group that compliments our current senior band and children’s bands.

“There is a big demand for people wanting to participate in music so we’re giving everyone in our community an opportunity to learn an instrument and play in a brass group.”

IDB is now seeking to boost its membership and would like to hear from children or adult learners and ex-players who would like to make a return to playing in a brass group. The band can be contacted at contact@idbrass.com
