Tragic death of Coalburn band member following car accident

Tuesday 15 March 2022

The Scottish Brass Band Association is saddened to learn from Coalburn of the tragic death of one of its banding family members following a road accident on Saturday (12 March) afternoon.

Beth Damer had been an integral part of the Coalburn banding family since joining the Bronze band 12 years ago. She progressed through all of the Coalburn bands, becoming a popular figure throughout the organisation.

Beth, who would have celebrated her 21st birthday today, worked for the NHS.

President Alan Court commented: “We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken at the dreadful news about Beth. She was a beautiful young woman who was incredibly popular and much loved. Her loss has been profoundly felt right across our band family.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Beth's family and heartfelt thanks to the brass band community for the numerous messages of support.”

The Coalburn Intermediate Band took the decision to withdraw from the Fourth Section of the Scottish Championships on Sunday after receiving the tragic news of Beth’s untimely death.
