‘Golden Rules’ for child protection produced as pocket-sized reference card

Friday 22 October 2021

A set of ‘Golden Rules’ has been drawn up by SBBA child protection officer Caroline Farren as a ready reference for the safeguarding of young people in Scottish brass bands.

The rules take the form of handy guidelines in a pocket-sized card which has been mailed out to all band secretaries for use by those people who work with children on a regular basis.

“The safety of our young people is of the utmost importance to the Scottish Brass Band Association,” explained Caroline. “With this in mind, we have produced a simple reference card to remind CPOs of the important ‘Golden Rules’ for child protection.

“We all have a duty of care to our young people – and each other – and it is important to be aware of any concerns and report them accordingly.”

The cards have been posted to CPOs in bands across Scotland and will be available to any other interested parties at the registration desks at forthcoming contests.
