Special band transfer arrangements are in place for students away from home

Thursday 23 September 2021

As universities and colleges start a new academic year, Scottish brass-playing students who are in full-time education are reminded that, if they are living away from home for their courses, they are permitted to switch registration between their own band and another one of their choice which is close to their place of study.

The dispensation for an initial period of one year can be extended by further 12-month periods at the discretion of the Scottish Brass Band Association registrations committee. During these time periods unlimited transfers between the two bands will be allowed at reduced transfer fees.

However, the player will not be permitted to transfer to or register with any band other than the two nominated bands during any 12-month period.

“This scheme is designed to assist students who cannot travel easily and regularly back home and to encourage them to continue with their brass banding while away at college or university,” explained SBBA secretary Tom Allan.

Any student wishing to avail themselves of this specific relaxation in the normal band registration rules can download a dispensation application form here.
