Dunaskin on the look-out for a couple of players as it plans a return to rehearsing

Friday 11 June 2021

Here’s a shout-out from Dunaskin Doon Band for a couple of players as it prepares to return to banding after the Coronavirus hiatus.

The band currently has vacancies for a soprano cornet and in its bass section. Both positions are within strong, established teams and applicants should be reliable and committed.

Dunaskin, led by musical director Paul Drury and resident conductor Scott Walker, competes at Championship level at present but is due to return to the 1st section from next January.

“We are a friendly, hard-working and sociable bunch, with players aged from 15 years old to 75 years young!” says band secretary Fiona ‘Euphie’ Waddington.

“Obviously everything has changed due to COVID, but our diary is generally sensible, with a good mix of concerts, contests and local engagements. We rehearse twice weekly in Ayr and help with lifts can be arranged.”

If you fancy a new challenge, a change of scene, or would like more information, please contact Fiona on 07884 008040 or send a message to secretary@ddband.co.uk in complete confidence.

The advertised positions may suit a student attending university or college in Ayrshire or Glasgow.

Dunaskin’s rehearsals usually take place in its own band hall in Mossblown, Ayr, but a return to playing will be taking place outdoors for the time being, starting next week, venue to be confirmed. Rehearsal nights are on Mondays and Thursdays, 7.30-9.30pm.
