Looking ahead to weekend Solo and Ensemble Festival

Thursday 11 March 2021

Despite the lack of the Scottish Championships this year, this weekend still promises to be a veritable showcase of individual and collective young and adult musical talent as the finals of the Scottish Solo and Ensemble Festival take place over the two days.

On Saturday the 35 qualifiers from the youth event a fortnight ago will perform their solos in a livestream broadcast on the SBBA YouTube channel, starting at 2pm.

On Sunday, the performances of nine youth ensembles will prelude the open event in which 17 senior players will display their soloistic prowess, again from 2pm on the SBBA YouTube channel

Bryan Allen will be the adjudicator for the youth finals and the open solos while Jamie McVicar and Sandy Coffin will mentor the ensembles.

“We are delighted to be showcasing some of Scotland’s brass players on what would have been the weekend of the Scottish Championships in Perth,” commented Ann Murray, co-organiser of the event with education officer John Boax.

“We look forward to returning to live events later this year but, under current regulations, it is wonderful to still be able to have a weekend of music.”
