Final call for entries into the Open Solo competition

Thursday 25 February 2021

This is a final shout-out for entries for the Open Solo Festival. It’s a great opportunity for adult soloists who would normally be working hard for contest rehearsals to show off their musical skills.

Video entries should be sent to SBBA education officer John Boax at sbbaeducation@gmail.com by next Tuesday (2 March).

“At this time of year we are normally busy in the band room, so it is hoped this will encourage players to get instruments out of their cases and give it a go,” said co-organiser Ann Murray.

“As there is no cost for entering and no travelling required, this will give our senior musicians something to work towards while we are in lockdown.”

There will be awards for best cornet, flugel, horn, euphonium, baritone, trombone and bass, overall best soloist and also an Over 40 award.

The event will be broadcast on the SBBA YouTube channel on Sunday 14 March, the day after the Youth Solo Festival, on what would have been the weekend of the Scottish Championships.

The entry form for the Open Solo Festival is available here.
