Get the lowdown on conducting virtual rehearsals in lockdown

Saturday 30 January 2021

Musical director Gareth Bowman is sharing his extensive knowledge of conducting bands in virtual rehearsals during the Coronavirus pandemic in an online workshop in February.

During the lockdown restrictions, Gareth has been delivering regular online rehearsals with Coalburn Silver Band and The Kirkintilloch Band on Zoom as well as conducting sessions with Newland Concert Brass, Enfield Brass Band, Newtongrange Junior Band and Loanhead Brass Roots.

During his ‘Approaches to Virtual Band Rehearsals’ course, which is designed for conductors interested in leading or developing their virtual rehearsals, Gareth will present a range of information on tried and tested approaches that have motivated band members to attend online rehearsals.

His techniques include technical exercises, solo music, concert music, improvising and even test pieces and to get players thinking about all aspects of playing.

Delegates will also receive:

• A PowerPoint pack with a range of activities (some slides will contain backing tracks)

• Signposted additional free resources available on YouTube suitable for virtual banding and post-pandemic practice at home

• Full brass band hymn tune arrangement of Love Divine and 4-part junior band piece suitable for use at virtual band rehearsals and back in the bandroom (PDF scores and parts with backing tracks will be provided)

• An opportunity to discuss ideas and find ways to overcome the challenges of virtual band rehearsals to maximise engagement and benefit to players.

The course will take place at 10.30am-12.30pm on Saturday 13 February. To register your place, which will cost just £50, complete the online form available from https://forms.gle/rAHyCT6LZ2LTP5aL7
