Scottish Virtual Youth Brass Band Festival plans take shape

Tuesday 10 November 2020

As plans for the Scottish Virtual Youth Brass Band Festival – which will take place on Sunday 29 November – start to take shape, youth bands are being reminded to submit their entries in good time.

Youth brass and percussion groups of any size are invited to take part in this virtual event which is being organised in the wake of the postponement of the Scottish Festival of Brass because of the current COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings.

Originally entrants were asked to play three contrasting items which must include a Scottish piece. Now, however, in recognition of the time and technical constraints on some youth bands, entries comprising fewer items will be accepted – even just one piece may be submitted.

There will be a mentor’s evaluation of every band’s performance.

“The main issue for some is the technical expertise involved to achieve a virtual performance,” explains education officer John Boax. “However, I will offer support to those bands with the help of our technical expert James McGoldrick to overcome these difficulties.”

Prizes will be awarded for the most entertaining performance and for the best rendition of the Scottish piece. Every group will receive a certificate of participation.

Closing date for sending in videos to John at is Friday 20 November 2020.
