Talented percussionist Daniel Fairley has joined Coalburn Silver Band’s percussion academy as tutor.

Daniel, who graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance of Timpani and Percussion from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2018, has an extensive range experience as both a performer and tutor.

He has been drummer and percussionist with Whitburn Band and the cooperation band as well as a variety of ensembles including orchestras, jazz bands, musical theatre and pop groups.

In June this year Daniel became an official Istanbul Agop cymbal artist, an achievement of which he is very proud.

Since 2017 he has worked as an instrumental instructor for the South Lanarkshire Orchestral Society Junior and Intermediate bands. He also recently began working with South Lanarkshire Council as percussion tutor in high schools teaching students in both one-to-one and group lessons, in addition to helping exam year students to prepare and practice programmes for their performance appraisals.

Daniel told SBBA: “I'm extremely excited about this appointment with Coalburn Silver. As someone who grew up in brass bands, an organisation like this gives me so much joy and hope for the future generation of musicians and I'm so proud to be a part of it.

“I’m already impressed with the current students' progress and I can't wait to see how far the academy and its students will go!”

As a result of COVID-19 restrictions, the percussion academy is currently rehearsing weekly via Zoom and is looking forward to resuming lessons in person at the band hall once it is safe to do so.
