RNCM conducting masterclass provides world class opportunity

Thursday 15 October 2020

The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) has announced the first in its 2020/21 programme of external conducting courses. Led by RNCM conducting staff Mark Heron and Clark Rundell, these events provide world class development opportunities for conductors at all levels.

The conducting masterclass will take place over two Sundays, 15 and 22 November. In the first event, there will be online sessions to prepare the repertoire for the practical session at the RNCM on the following Sunday. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct wind and brass ensembles of RNCM students, giving an unparalleled opportunity to develop their skills.

Scotsman Mark Heron (pictured) has an international reputation as a conducting teacher. He told SBBA: “At the RNCM we are very proud of our conducting courses, both for full-time students and the various short courses that we run.

“The masterclass programme is long established and has unearthed some outstanding talents. Given international travel restrictions, we are anticipating that this event will provide an excellent opportunity for UK-based conductors of wind and brass bands.

“The sessions on 22 November have been scheduled to facilitate travel on the day and the RNCM has extensive COVID-secure measures in place.”
