Despite lockdown, Bathgate Youth Band celebrates Make Music Day

Saturday 20 June 2020

Make Music Day on 21 June is the UK’s largest single-day music event and the world’s biggest celebration of music, taking place in 125 countries annually. It is a DIY festival encouraging people to organise live music events for their communities.

Everyone can take part as long as performances happen on 21 June and they are free to view. Last year saw 0ver 1000 performances across the UK, playing to an audience of more than 140,000 people.

Back in 2018, Bathgate Youth Band answered SBBA’s call for a band to attend a Make Music Day UK event being hosted in Edinburgh. The band made their debut performance on the roof terrace of Waverley Mall, in its prestigious location on Edinburgh’s Princes Street (pictured).

The next year the band made the bold step to hold their own Make Music Day performance outside Bathgate Partnership Centre in what is believed to be the first-ever Make Music Day event to be held in Bathgate.

Sadly 2020 sees the band in lockdown, just like every other band throughout the UK. However, members decided this could not prevent uthem from marking the day in their own special way.

As a result, the band’s team have been working behind the scenes to prepare a compilation of some of their performances over the last two years. The result can be viewed from 11am on 21 June at https://youtu.be/IhkqkM07hRg

“We hope you enjoy our video, and we will back in 2021,” said Derek Brown, president, Bathgate Youth Development Bands.
