Charity single in tribute to NHS workers

Sunday 19 April 2020

Former Newland Concert Brass players Fraser West and Alec Dalgleish – now members of the Scottish band Skerryvore – have recorded a hit new single individually from isolation with 20 other musicians from across the country in tribute to NHS workers.

Newland’s Eb bass player Peter West also features in the video performance of Everyday Heroes which was written by piper Martin Gillespie who, along with his brother Daniel, is a founder member of Skerryvore.

The track pays tribute to the hundreds of thousands of NHS staff, volunteers and key workers who are risking so much to fight Coronavirus and all of the proceeds from the single will go to the NHS Charities COVID-19 Urgent Appeal.

Following on from the release of the single, Skerryvore invited musicians (of any instrument) to join in playing Everyday Heroes during last Thursday’s Clap For Carers.  Hundreds of musicians took up the challenge including players from Newland Concert Brass. The band’s Eb bass players Alan Brough and Peter West are pictured taking part.

The track is currently No. 1 in the Scottish singles chart and it can be downloaded by clicking here. You will also find links to the sheet music here.
