Special events to mark 125th anniversary

Thursday 27 February 2020

The Scottish Brass Band Association marks its 125th anniversary this year and a programme of events to commemorate the occasion are being organised for every month of 2020.

Following the Scottish Championships on 7/8 March, events planned for the rest of the year include

• Easter National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) school (7-10 April)

• Scottish Senior Solo and Ensemble finals (30 May)

• Roadshow of Learning (north – 13 June; south – 5 September)

• Glasgow Canals Festival (25 July)

• NYBBS summer school and concert series (2-8 August)

• Brass Blast! – come and play (24 October)

• Scottish Festival of Brass (21 and 28-29 November)

• SBBA celebration event (TBC).

Formed in July 1895, it is believed that SBBA is the oldest established organisation of its kind in Europe as no other similar representative groups were in existence at the time.

A history of brass bands in Scotland, compiled by Alan McLaren, will be published inside the souvenir Scottish Championships programme, priced at £3.
