Bryan Allen is new Associate Conductor with Whitburn

Whitburn Band is delighted to announce that Bryan Allen has accepted the position of Associate Conductor with the band.

Bryan will work with Whitburn on various projects in the second half of this year,  and into 2020 when the band celebrates its 150th anniversary.

It follows successful collaborations between Whitburn and Bryan over the past few years, including a joint concert with the Glasgow Phoenix Choir that was held at the end of April to a packed Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.

Bryan is a celebrated trumpeter, conductor, educator and adjudicator.

Between 1980-1995, he performed as a trumpeter with the world-renowned Fine Arts Brass Ensemble. With them, he toured in over 60 countries and performed in over 2000 concerts at all the major concert halls and festivals. With this ensemble he gave premieres of over 50 new works by major composers, broadcast over 100 times on TV and radio and made countless commercial recordings.

He then worked as Head of Brass and Instrumental Performance at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama – now known as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – between 1995 and 2011, where he directed many orchestral, wind, brass and jazz ensembles.

Bryan now regularly works with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Scottish Opera as a performer and conductor.

As a clinician and examiner he works at leading Conservatoires and academic institutions, and he also adjudicates for numerous national and international competitions.

He was awarded the British Bandsman Award for services to brass in 1995 for his Directorship of Brass Explosion Festivals in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and in 2011 became the first ever Fellow of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
