Bathgate Youth Band (BYB) answered the call from organisers of the '2018 Make Music Day UK' last week, performing at the flagship event at Edinburgh's Waverley Mall Roof Terrace in front of a sizeable audience.

BYB played a number of its favourites during the 45-minute slot, including Alan Fernie's Stal Himmel (Steel Skies), African Funk and the classic Keane hit Somewhere Only We Know.

President of the Band Derek Brown commented: "This was a fantastic opportunity for our young musicians to showcase the progress they have made over the last year under the direction of Stewart Brynes, but more importantly a chance to play to an audience that may not typically listen to brass band music in a prime location on Edinburgh’s Princes Street.”

Conductor Stewart Brynes added: "Reflecting on the event, that was the pinnacle since I started working with Bathgate Youth Band. I can’t help but feel a massive amount of achievement for the guys in less than a year."

Originally inspired by the French tradition, 'Fete de la Musique', Make Music Day is now celebrated all around the world on 21 June each year.
