Senior NYBBS players mark 15 years of YMI

Thursday 31 May 2018

A group of eight senior NYBBS players took part earlier this month in a networking event and reception to mark 15 years of the Youth Music Initiative (YMI) in the Year of the Young People.

The event, held at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall’s Music Studio, was part of the Music Education Matters conference hosted by Enterprise Music Scotland.

Attendees included representatives from Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government along with music teachers, arts organisations, community musicians, local authorities, composers, researchers and instrumental instructors.

After the event, Creative Scotland’s YMI Manager Emma Campbell commented: “A huge ‘thank you’ is due to John Boax and the young musicians from the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland for their performance at the reception. We had lots of comments about the great selection of music and how much people enjoyed the playing – several people told me that it didn’t feel right not to be dancing to Kalinka!”
