Youth to flourish at Hamilton concert

Wednesday 28 February 2018

* WE HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT, DUE TO THE ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS, THIS CONCERT HAS NOW BEEN CANCELLED *

1st Hamilton Girls Brigade and 12th Hamilton Boys Brigade will present Coalburn Silver, Intermediate, Bronze and Percussion Academy ensembles in concert at Hamilton Baptist Church on Friday 2 March.

The concert, entitled ‘A Family of Brass’, will feature all four of the Coalburn ensembles along with members of both the Boys and Girls Brigade in a musical extravaganza with the emphasis firmly on youth.

The award winning Coalburn Bronze (Children’s) Band will open the concert, featuring 20 youngsters fresh from their Gold award and runners-up spot at the recent Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships.

Following them will be a performance from the Coalburn Percussion Academy. Formed only a couple of years ago, the Academy aims to tutor and develop the percussionists of the future. Every pupil in the Academy plays within one of the Coalburn Brass ensembles and this will give them a chance to perform together as a group.

The Coalburn Intermediate Band will be next to perform. The band is made up of over 20 young brass musicians who are developing their musicality in this fun and exciting ensemble. They will play their programme for their forthcoming performance at Perth concert hall at the Scottish Championships.

Along with the Coalburn Bands there will be a number of vocal and instrumental performances from the talented members of the Girls and Boys Brigade. There will be a special moment with the Explorers of the Girls Brigade joining the brass in what promises to be a unique performance!

Coalburn Silver Band will bring the concert to a close as it performs a short programme of music including a performance of its test-piece for the Scottish Championships later in March.

Band President Alan Court commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been invited along to Hamilton Baptist Church by the Girls and Boys Brigade and can’t wait to perform alongside them. We have all our ensembles on show and can promise an exciting and entertaining night of music.”

The concert commences at 7.30pm with doors open at 7.00pm. Children go free and admission is on the door, priced £5.00. Refreshments will be served during the interval. Anyone wishing to get in touch should  visit the band website www.coalburnsilverband.co.uk

Meanwhile, the Coalburn organisation has also announced details of its forthcoming Quiz night, to be held at St. John's Parish Hall, Blackwood on Friday, 23 March. The cost is £3 per person with a maximum of six members to each team and everyone is welcome.
