Kirkintilloch Band withdraws from Scottish ChampionshipsThursday 8 February 2018
The Kirkintilloch Band has announced that it is having to withdraw from this year's Scottish Championships at Perth Concert Hall in March due to a shortage of players in key positions.
A statement from the band reads as follows: "Due to a combination of factors beyond our control, The Kirkintilloch Band regretfully announces that it will be unable to compete at the Scottish Championships in Perth next month. Although there remains a very committed core group of players, the band has been unable to fill a number of key vacancies (including principal cornet and principal euphonium) in time to field a band that would maintain the standards expected of The Kirkintilloch Band."
"Having exhausted all possibilities, the band committee has reluctantly decided on this course of action to focus on retaining the band’s position in the Grand Shield in Blackpool in May. It is hoped that this will allow time for the band to recruit replacements to fill the vacant seats and ensure a full return to the contesting arena thereafter."
Any players interested in joining the band on a permanent basis should contact John Needham (Mobile: 07775 823026). All enquiries will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) President Carrie Boax commented: "While Kirkintilloch will be greatly missed at our National Championships and regional qualifier, I would support the words from their statement and wish the band with its long, distinguished history spanning over some 127 years, our full support as it works hard to rebuild in time for the Spring Festival in May."
