SBBA AGM and 3rd Learning Festival next weekend.
Saturday 13 January 2018The Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday 20 January, coinciding with the 3rd Annual Learning Festival which will be held over the full weekend at the King Malcolm Hotel in Dunfermline.
Commencing at 9.15am, the AGM will be followed by a series of free workshops from 11.00am onwards. The workshops will include the following:
Richard Evans – Repertoire
Scott Kerr – Performance Techniques
Volunteer Scotland – Child Protection
Lynsey Patterson – Percussion
Paul Wood – Funding and Self-Publishing for Composers
Saturday evening features the presentation to the winners of the 2017 Bands of the Year followed by a quiz night where as many teams of no more than five members are welcome to take part. The 2017 Bands of the Year are as follows:
Championship Section: Whitburn
1st Section: Bathgate
2nd Section: Arbroath Instrumental
3rd Section: Irvine and Dreghorn
4th Section: Newmains and District
Sunday sees the high-flying Whitburn Band showcase two of the test-pieces which are to be played at the forthcoming Scottish Brass Band Championships in March. From 10.00am until 12.00pm, Whitburn will work on the 2nd Section test-piece, Jonathan Bates’ Ex Terra Lucem and, from 1.00pm until 3.00pm, the current Scottish Champion band will deliver a workshop on the 4th Section test-piece, Rodney Newton’s World Tour.
There will be trade stands on show at the event and also the opportunity to meet and speak with our Trustees, Executive committee and other appropriate members of the Scottish Brass Band Association. All are welcome.
The weekend's Learning Festival events will be supported by Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative (YMI).
