Parliamentary Motion for NYBBS and SBBA

Wednesday 22 August 2012

SBBA are delighted to discover a Parliamentary Motion by Clare Adamson MSP, congratulating an ensemble from The National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) which performed at the Scottish Parliament on 20th December 2011.

Whilst the unexpected discovery of this news is some time after the initial event, it signifies an important public record for the two organisations, offering very complimentary and well deserved congratulations. This motion is extremely significant for SBBA, the players representing NYBBS, together with Josiah Walters (NYBBS member and composer of the commissioned work for the event). It not only marks official recognition of the success of the event, but clearly demonstrates the importance of such additional performance opportunities which SBBA continues to seek out for the members of NYBBS.

The motion can be seen on Clare Adamson's own website and reads as follows:

Motion S4M-01649: Clare Adamson, Central Scotland, Scottish National Party, Date Lodged: 22/12/2011
National Youth Brass Band of Scotland

That the Parliament congratulates the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland on its brass ensemble concert at the Parliament-held event, Year of Creative Scotland, on 20 December 2011; notes particularly what it considers to be the excellent work of Josiah Walters, a student of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and composer of the fanfare, Flying High, and believes that this piece, commissioned by the Scottish Brass Band Association to mark the first year of Creative Scotland, demonstrates the exceptional and accomplished work of this ensemble of students.
