SBBA have been informed of the sad passing of the great David James. David passed away on the evening of February 12th, he was 68 years old.
Though David had been ill for some time he always managed to attend as many events as possible and maintained his interest in his beloved brass bands. His contribution was immense. As well as the many famous bands he conducted David provided advice and guidance for some of the best talent in the brass band movement.
Davids outlook on life is probably best described by this quote from an article he wrote on the subject of loyalty in the brass band movement.
I pass this way but once,
Therefore, if there is anything I can do,
Any kindness I can show,
Let me do it now, I shall not pass this way again.
Funeral arrangements will be posted as soon as they are known, in the meantime on behalf of all brass band people and in particular all members of The Kirkintilloch Band, which was the first band David conducted in 1973, we send condolences to his wife Rita and all the Family.
