Whitburn Make History

Whitburn Band is set to appear in a landmark programme to be shown on BBC Scotland. Whitburn will star in the final episode of A History of Scotland, presented by Neil Oliver.

 

Earlier this year, the band performed for a television crew at the site of the former Ravenscraig steelworks in Motherwell. The episode in which the band will appear charts Scotland’s industrial and economic decline in the 20th century. It is part of Scotland’s History - a series of events across the BBC network which marked the year of Homecoming. Whitburn is no stranger to national television and radio coverage. Recently, the band performed the national anthems for Fiji and Australia at the Scotland international rugby union autumn international tests. The games were broadcast live to millions of people around the world.

 

Alex Vidler, Whitburn Band’s President, commented: “Whitburn are always delighted to have the opportunity to perform on a national and worldwide stage. Our appearance in A History of Scotland was an enjoyable one, and we hope that our TV exposure will highlight the band to potential investors and sponsors for the future.”

 

A History of Scotland can be seen on BBC 1 Scotland on Sunday, December 6 at 9pm. Viewers outside Scotland will be able to see the show on digital providers such as Sky. The programme will also be repeated across the United Kingdom on Saturday, December 19 on BBC 2 at 7.40pm. The time of this repeated show, however, is subject to change due to Christmas scheduling. The programme is also available via the BBC iPlayer for anyone who missed the original screening.
