The Co-operative Funeralcare Band is pleased to announce an addition to the ranks of the its percussion section in the person of 18 year-old Thomas Lowe. A product of St. Patrick’s School and St. Andrew’s School in Coatbridge, Thomas first became interested in percussion in 2005 after watching the St. Patrick School’s concert band performing. He went on to join that band and became its first ever percussionist (the founding member in fact). In 2008, Thomas gained playing experience with the Bo’ness and Carriden Band as well as being involved in wind ensembles and other groups in the North Lanarkshire schools area. He will shortly be auditioning for a place in the West of Scotland Symphony Orchestra.
Just this week, after undergoing an audition, Thomas learned that he had gained a place on the BA (Music Performance) degree course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama in Glasgow and he will begin his studies there in September, 2010.
Speaking to the band’s media and public relations spokesman Robert McCorkell, Thomas said “I’m very pleased to have the chance to play with Scotland’s champion band and I hope to help them to further success. I’m sure the experience I gain playing at this level will be of benefit to me in my future career”.
Robert McCorkell commented “Thomas played with the band as a guest at the “Land O’ Burns” contest in Troon earlier this year and we are all delighted now to welcome him aboard as a band member. His presence will be a valuable addition to the percussion team. We will watch his future progress with great interest as he undertakes his studies at the RSAMD”.
