Besson Scottish Solo & Ensembles 2009

The Besson sponsored Scottish Solo and Ensemble finals took place over the weekend of 7th/8th February in Bathgate and Broxburn. The Junior sections took place on Saturday 7th February in the Regal Theatre, Bathgate with the senior finals taking place in the Strathbrock Centre in Broxburn the following day. The adjudicators for the weekend were Michael Dodd and James Gourlay.

 

In the Junior sections the ensemble contest was won by Williamston Primary School with Rachel Jones of Dalmellington taking the soloist title. The intermediate ensemble title was won by the B quartet from Carnoustie High School whilst Erin McSporran of Campbeltown Brass took the intermediate soloist tile. Carnoustie High School made it a double of ensemble titles with success in the youth ensembles. The youth soloist title was won by Rachel Brown from Loanhead Brass Roots.

 

On the Sunday it was the turn of the Seniors to vie for the titles of Scottish Solo Champion and Scottish Ensemble Champion. The Ensemble title was won by Blackburn and Darwen from England. In the senior solos the six qualifiers for the final were Ailsa Russell, Ian Fleming, Ross Knight, Charles Cullen, Charlie Farren and Elaine Smith with Charles Cullen emerging victorious from a strong field to be crowned as the new Scottish Soloist Champion.
