Whitburn ended their Scottish Championship drought with an overdue win in Glenrothes. It was a close tun thing though as Kirkintilloch ran them very close as they attempted to retain the title they won last year. Kingdom Brass finally took the next step in their progression by breaking into the top three for the first time, leaving Scottish Co-op to ponder their lowest placing at the Championships since 2002. The adjudicators remarks and the points awarded indicated that these four bands were demonstrably ahead of the rest of the field. With such a high standard being set this year the adjudicators had a hard job separating the top four an indeed on another day the result could have been different, it was that close. Whitburn though will remember this one for a long time and you could see how much it meant to the band with some of their members in tears as they celebrated their fifteenth win at the Scottish Championships. Good luck to both Whitburn and Kirkintilloch as they now go forward to represent Scotland at the National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall in October.
