Brass Band March Contest open to all bands
with £1000 to the Winning Band and the opportunity for each band to win over £1500 in total prizemoney
Bands will play an own choice march in 3 separate march contests to be held in different venues in the tented village and the nearby Scottish Mining Museum. Each contest will have a separate adjudicator and prizes will be awarded based on an aggregate of results at the 3 contests.
At the first 2 venues bands will play in a standing formation although seating may be used by bass players if desired. The final venue will be the main marquee in the tented village when bands will play in a seated formation on the main stage and with a full range of percussion instruments available for use. Bands may use the same march at all venues or perform different marches at all or some of the venues.
There will be no street march prior to performing at any of the 3 venues, however, there will be one separate street march over a short route of a few hundred yards in Main Street, Newtongrange. The performance of the bands in the street march will not form any part of the main contest but will be judged for a separate deportment prize. All bands taking part in the march contest will be expected to participate in the street march.
With the agreement of SBBA, no registration procedures will apply at this event. With the exception of the normal maximum limit of 25 brass players plus percussionists as required, there are therefore no rules or restrictions concerning the composition of bands at this event. Bands will be entitled to use the services of any players and indeed bands may even elect to join forces to form a one off combination for the purposes of this event.

Highest Placed entry from a 4th Section band - £250

Marching Deportment Contest - £250
Plus £100 for the highest placed band at each of the 3 venues
To Take Part
Simply complete the attached entry form (PDF icon at top of the page) and return it as soon as possible, along with the entry fee of £30, to Alan McLaren, Mansfield Villa, 23 Polton Road, Loanhead, Midlothian EH20 9BU The closing date for entries is 30th June 2007, however, as there is a limit to the number of bands we can accommodate and as entries are prioritised by date of receipt, bands are advised to submit entries as early as possible.
