The Future's Brassy
This year is the 10th birthday of the West Lothian Festival of Brass in which six of the best bands in the country compete over three Sundays in June to win the prestigious competition.
To mark the occon and to celebrate the fact that today Scotland probably has more young players of brass instruments than ever before (47 youth sections), every young player is invited to enjoy this year's festival at Howden Park Centre, Livingston for the bargain price of £6 for a ticket.
The bands competing on Sunday 5 June are Exchange Communications Whitburn Band, Unison Kinneil Band and Kindom Brass Band. On Sunday 12 June Co-operative Funeralcare Band will take on Kirkintilloch Band and Newtongrange Band. Only two of these will qualify for the grand final on Sunday 26 June when one will raise the roof and earn the title Champions of West Lothian Festival of Brass 2011.
Adjudicators 5th & 12th June - Stan Lippeatt & James Smith
Adjudicators Final 26th June - Philip Harper & James Smith
To celebrate the 10th Festival the Scottish Brass Band Association has commissioned a new piece from composer Paul Drury. Each band will premier the "West Lothian Festival March" as part of the competition.
