Sunday 9 April 2017

Details of the tutorial staff have been announced ahead of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland's (NYBBS) Summer Course, to be held at Strathallan School in Perthshire from 23 to 29 July 2017.

The NYBBS Senior Band is set to enjoy the company of a star-studded line-up of tutors with a wealth of experience in modern-day brass banding. Cory Band soloists Helen (flugelhorn) and Glyn Williams (euphonium) will be joined by Richard Poole (soprano cornet) and Lesley Poole (tenor horn) while Nick Hudson will look after the trombone section. Euphonium virtuoso David Childs will also be on hand, as will Simon Gresswell (tuba) and Mark Landon (percussion).

The Reserve Band tutors will include Gareth Bowman, Sandy Coffin, Phillippa MacDougall alongside Mike Robertson, Charlie Farren and Paul Judge while the Children’s Band has a wealth of experience to call upon in Caroline Farren, Stuart Black, Alan Fernie and Gary Williams.

In addition to these tutors, Paul Lovatt-Cooper has been commissioned to compose two new pieces for the Children and Reserve Bands and he will spend time at the course working with all three groups. Paul is also gifting music to the Senior Band.

Jon Hodkin (innertuba.org.uk) will also be a guest at the course, working predominantly with the Children’s Band in a variety of ways, including workshops, promoting healthy lifestyles and possibly performing with the band at its concert. The Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) hopes to support a Scottish tour that Jon is undertaking in 2018.

The NYBBS Children's Band concert will be held in Strathallan School Chapel at 2.00pm on Saturday 29 July while the Reserve and Senior Bands concerts will be at 7.00pm on the same day at St. John's Kirk in Perth.
