Three Scots to appear with European Youth Brass Band

Tuesday 7 March 2017

Scotland will be represented by three young players when the European Youth Brass Band (EYBB) meets up in Oostende, Belgium in the week prior to the 2017 European Brass Band Championships.

2016 Scottish Solo champion Kyle McCorquodale (bass trombone), will be joined by cornet player Fiona Kennedy and Bb bass Duncan McLuskie in what promises to be a busy schedule of events for the band.

The EYBB, under the baton of Belgium’s Raf van Looveren, will perform at a concert with Brass Band Panta Rhei in Mariakerke on 25 April and will take part in a Last Post Ceremony at the Menenpoort Ieper the following day. There will also be appearances at the final of the European Conductor’s Competition on Thursday 27 April and the Opening Ceremony of the European Brass Band Championships on the Friday. The final weekend of the festival of brass will include further performances at the Grand Gala Concert (Saturday) and the closing concert after the 4th European Youth Brass Band contest on Sunday, 30 April.

A spokesperson for the European Brass Band Association commented: “The band will have a very busy schedule of rehearsals and concerts, but there will also be time to socialise, take part in cultural visits and, of course, the young players will have a chance to listen to the best brass bands in the world competing in the European Brass Band Championship in Oostende.”
