Under the spotlight: Clackmannan District

Clackmannan District Band on stage in Perth Concert Hall.

 

TAKING to the stage for the 2016 Scottish Open, supported by Besson, is Clackmannan District Band.

The championship band will be looking to impress with conductor Iain Muirhead at the event in Perth Concert Hall in November 26.

 

History

Clackmannan District Brass Band was formed in October 1991 as a result of the amalgamation of the Alva Town and Alloa Burgh bands. The band rehearses twice a week at its band room next to the Alloa Football Stadium.

The band regularly performs in concerts and participates in local gala days. It has adopted Strathcarron Hospice as its sponsored charity and in previous years has accompanied the hospice staff during their annual fundraising carol concert at the Thistle Centre in Stirling.  

Clackmannan District Band has had a great deal of contesting success over the years, representing Scotland at the National Championships on no fewer than three occasions.

It currently employs the services of Iain Muirhead as itsresident conductor. Iain is a professional orchestral trumpet player who has performed with many of the top orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Everyone looks forward to continued success under his direction.
