Timings for Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships

Preparations are well underway ahead of the Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships.

 

THE Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has confirmed timings for the Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships.

It comes ahead of the youth contests on Saturday, February 6, in Livingston's Howden Park Centre and the open competitions in the Regal Theatre, Bathgate, on Sunday, February 7. 

Euphonium star David Childs and professional trombone player Dávur Magnussen will adjudicate the brass events and Alasdair Rankin will judge the percussion contests. Alan Hastie is the accompanist for Saturday's contests with Fiona Dickson taking on the role on Sunday.

Timings given below are estimates. Results will be announced at the conclusion of each age group before the next section gets underway.

Competitors should remember to take a copy of their music for the adjudicators and piano parts for the accompanist.

 

Saturday, February 6 | Howden Park Centre

9.30am: Draw for junior solos and ensembles. (12 years and under)

10am: Junior ensembles start followed by junior solos

12.30pm: Draw for intermediate solos and snsembles (16 years and under)

1.30pm:  Intermediate ensembles followed by intermediate solos

4.30pm: Draw for youth solos and ensembles. (21 years and under)

5.30pm: Youth ensembles followed by youth solos

 

Sunday, February 7 | Regal Theatre

9.30am: Draw for percussion contests followed by percussion ensembles then solos

11am: Draw for brass competitions followed by slow melody, ensemble, duet then open solo contests
