Fife Brass Band Festival invite

Sunday 31 January 2016

Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline, plays host to the Fife Festival of Brass.

BRASS bands in sections one to four have been invited to take part in the 2016 Fife Festival of Brass.

Entries are now being taken for the competition, which is due to take place in Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline, on Saturday, April 23.

Competing bands will perform a programme of no longer than 15 minutes playing time, which must include on original work or arrangement by Alan Fernie.

The contest will start at 9.30am with the order of play beginning with fourth section bands followed by third, second, non-contesting and concluding with first section bands taking to the stage. There will be a pre-draw three weeks before the contest.

Due to the popularity of the contest and the number of entries in the past, organisers have agreed that all sections will be restricted to a maximum of six bands, decided on a strictly first come, first served basis. If more than six bands enter any section, they will be placed on a waiting list and informed if any spaces become available. The committee reserves the right to increase entry numbers to a section if one section becomes oversubscribed and others are undersubscribed. The committee also reserves the right to combine sections if necessary.

The prizes in all sections will be announced in due course. Non-contesting bands will not receive prize money, but will be awarded a certificate and given adjudicator’s comments.

Trophies will be awarded to the winning band in each section and the best soloist in each section will also receive a medal.

The closing date for entries is Saturday, March 19.

Entry fee for the contest is £90 for contesting bands and £50 for non contesting bands which will include 30 bandspersons' tickets.

Contest entries should be sent to Dougie Harrower, secretary, 12 Carnbee Place, Glenrothes Fife KY7 4TN. More information is available by calling Dougie on 01592 774736, 07788272808 or getting in touch via email.
